Yeah it feels like the HE sector is slowly heading towards a cliff and Westminster is actively speeding it up while Holyrood is content to let it drift towards the edge as is.

I mean Holyrood is also desperately underfunding universities. It's good that they're doing this, but their management of HE has also been extremely poor. They are not a good example to anyone.

The point is that there are far more English novels "where class and wealth matter" than there are ones that ignore it. It's like a major theme of English literature. Maybe not boarding school novels where traditionally all the characters are wealthy for obvious reasons. Just read other books
