This problem is deep and entrenched. During the Obama era, we elected him, then stood back and expected him to win all our fights. We didn't have his back. We didn't show up. We wanted our own strong man because we'd bought into it.

Public records are defined by law. News is likely not a public record. Instead, it's a type of temporary or transient record. Plus, web sites change anyway. And yes, you are correct, relying solely on the government to preserve data is a flawed strategy.
