So, correct me if I'm wrong, but, given I'm in the Diamond League (the highest league) this means I'm currently the fifth-highest ranked person on Duolingo in the world as of last night? #LanguageNinja

Just watched the trailer for the next Avatar film. Looks spectacular, as you might expect. But something about James Horner's theme music absolutely wrecks me every time. Doesn't just pull at your heartstrings, it forcibly attaches them to the back of a speeding train and lets rip.

Need to get back to using this more. Been spending most of my time over on Threads, but it's starting to fill up with some of the same unsavoury types that everyone was running into all the time on Xitter.

Duolingo people - I've been doing Swedish on there for a little over 2 years, and am near the end of section 2. What is the CEFR grade equivalent? I'm thinking around B1-ish...?

Being both British and Irish, I have divided loyalties when it comes to sports. I'll always support England in football, but it's always Ireland in rugby. And they're playing a blinder today. #SixNations

Catching up with the Fire Aid concert. Who’s that playing fretless guitar with Joni Mitchell? It sounds amazing. And so does she, for 81…

Five years ago, the UK opened up a septic, suppurating wound on itself that shows no sign of healing. Based on lies, xenophobia and the desires of rich tax-avoiding scum.

We now have a government with no Leavers in it.

FUCKING SORT IT OUT, STARMER. #Brexit #Breturn

With his money, Musk could have cured diseases, pulled people out of poverty, brought peace to warring countries and lifted the world up in a way that nobody else has done before. He could have had things named after him all over the world, and been one of the most admired men in history.

Where would this be then? Right between Oxford and Cambridge are the likes of Luton, Dunstable or Milton Keynes...

Can anyone point me in the right direction for where I might be able to find adapters to make a set of 1/4" guitar knobs fit on a 4mm pot, and a 1/3” knob to fit on a 6mm pot? These are for dual-concentric pots.

OK, not going to bother with the Skeets app any more. It has a horribly annoying auto-complete feature that I can't seem to turn off.

I’m guessing that Zuck’s new fact-checking fuckery (ie, complete abdication of responsibility) will only apply to the US? No way he’s getting away with that in the EU. They’ll shut him down.

So Bluesky is the more open alternative to the birdsite. After Zuck's latest ill-advised cucking to Tr**p, what would be the alternatives to Meta's other properties, like FB and Insta?

Maybe it's time for someone to pull Myspace out of mothballs? 🤓
January 7, 2025 at 3:08 PM
I've been mostly using Threads to satisfy what little desire I have to have some kind of social media presence, but I think I'm going to be spending more time over here from now on, after reading about Zuck's new moderation rules over there.
January 7, 2025 at 1:56 PM
I would use Bluesky a hell of a lot more if there was a good Mac desktop app for it that isn't called Graysky. #justsaying

Irish musos - where does one look for musicians to play with in Ireland these days? Back in the day it was always the musicians wanted section of Boards, but that's pretty quiet these days. Has some other site come along, or is everyone just using FB, etc?

Is Meta having an outage right now? FB, Insta and Threads seem to be down...

Ha. Managed to snag one.

Been reading a lot about Ruffle, the WASM-based Flash Player replacement. There was a bunch of stuff that was easily done in Flash that's never been completely replicated in HTML/JS. And, last time I checked, Adobe Animate still spits out SWF files so you can still create new Flash content.

Anyone got a lead on where I might be able to get a PS5 30th Anniversary controller?
November 22, 2024 at 2:51 PM
There is a Mac app called Graysky - tried it. Didn’t like it. Hopefully there’ll be more options soon, with so many new users heading over here.

Would be happy to entertain work possibilities outside the US too... it's not like, after last week's orange-tinted diarrhoea explosion, the US remains an attractive place to live.

Not sure I have any game dev people on here, but, if I do, are there any positions that a 52-year-old web developer who last worked in the video games industry 25 years ago might be able to get?

Anyway, that’s enough self-promotion for one year. Got it all out of the way early. Back to lurking, and occasionally commenting on TV shows, geek/computer stuff and politics.
