I'm sorry, this won't help much. I managed to set some odd refresh rates: 75.02Hz, 29.97Hz. I'm surprised glxgears limits fps to refresh rate correctly as I move it across screens.
I have a very basic setup with Intel graphics and no compositing desktop environment, latest stable Xorg and kernel.
