And yet their politicians have directly contacted Alberta residents to encourage separation. That’s far more egregious.

Lots of us baby boomers are NOT wealthy and are terrified to be retired at this time.

They can’t seem to realize the difference between Canada and the provinces. It’s not that hard — they have state Governors and a President who leads the country as a whole.

They should stay and clean up their own mess and fight for their own country. We don’t need that kind of divisiveness here and we don’t need to be swamped by Americans who want to colonize us because suddenly we look really good to them.

Despite the great fear and real erosion of democracy in the U.S., there are so many people with far greater and imminent fear for their lives from elsewhere. Americans can apply under certain programs and especially in desired occupations. But most cannot be classed as refugees.

One important thing to remember. Last year when BC’s wine industry was decimated, growers in Washington State shared some of their vine stock (?). It was a super generous gesture but it means those B.C. wines this year can’t be in the 100% Cdn shelves. Please ask about that in your store.

Also: dishwasher detergent Biovert from Quebec (natural so doesn’t leave chemical films on dishes). Laundry detergent -Nelly’s.

But does anyone know about vinegar and baking soda?

We will see the results of the current legal challenge to Bill C-5 on that basis. I am very concerned about CUPE being forced back to work. But it’s also true our Constitution has exceptions to the Charter — the notwithstanding clause. Lots of tensions in all this and I am also following it.

It seems to be coming in from the north. It’s like it just came out of nowhere!

I’m just looking because all of a sudden the sky is full of smoke. Yikes.
August 15, 2025 at 2:23 AM
Ouch! That is serious. Let’s hope the underlying issue gets resolved.

We are coming to understand our true value during this crisis. It feels like we are coming out of our shell and taking our rightful place in the world, quietly and without fanfare but firmly and clearly.
August 11, 2025 at 5:03 AM
They have no clue how offensive such posts are because they don’t understand the problem at all.
August 11, 2025 at 4:59 AM
By asking us not to give up on you it’s like you are urging an abused wife to not give up on her husband. That’s what you are doing and it’s offensive.
August 11, 2025 at 4:58 AM
Those are people who hopefully have a very good reason to be there, like a sick parent. Your country has repeated and continues to threaten our sovereignty. The damage is deep and will last a very long time so we are mostly giving up on the relationship with your country.
August 11, 2025 at 4:57 AM
This is very misleading. Anyone thinking of doing this please inform yourselves. It’s not that easy and in general we don’t accept refugees from the US. I do hope we soon open a conversation about trans folk from the USA but we aren’t there yet.

Yes, it’s complicated to celebrate our nation of Canada *and* to acknowledge our history and commit to active works of decolonization and reconciliation and relational accountability.

You are smelling the wildfire in Chase BC. If you are driving east on the Trans Canada tomorrow you want to check the DriveBC web site to make sure the highway is open. It’s open right now but no stopping at all during that stretch.

Oh please. He is just negotiating with a maniac and trying to push the right buttons. This is all his strategy as he knows he lacks control over the lunatic south of us. He is doing his best in that scenario and letting him think he won. Let’s support him.

This story made me cry, as the child of immigrants who left the aftermath of a different war. My family has contributed their all to Canada in gratitude. I have sponsored and supported refugees twice now and it is a way of paying back what this country did for my parents and us.

I think this could have been a very considered response. Ultimately Carney is committed to our best interests and has shown how much smarter he is than the orange one. It may look like he caved but he told us it was a complex negotiation. You often have to read between his lines re Trump.
June 30, 2025 at 2:12 PM
Yes!! I totally agree with your assessment. He keeps his cards close to his chest and always considers every possible scenario and option. He has made it look like he caved. On Fri he said we remain engaged in a very complex negotiation. I think this was part of it when dealing with a lunatic.
June 30, 2025 at 2:09 PM
The fact that it’s on sale would make me suspicious it’s not Canadian. Yes. I have found the same issues.
June 28, 2025 at 10:19 PM
True. Policy includes how it is encoded in laws. But good clarification.
