Researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, recently found that ANC in 120 people with the Duffy null blood group can range from 1210-5390 microliters: significantly lower than most institutional reference ranges Historically, ANC reference ranges have had a lower limit of 2000 microliters, but these were based on studies in populations with European ancestry, in whom the Duffy null phenotype is rare. 2/3 of people in the USA who self-identify as African-American have the Duffy null phenotype. It is also more common in people of Middle East and North African ancestry.

The latest NCCN Guidelines now highlight that ropeginterferon alfa-2b-njft (BESREMi®) can be used as a substitution for treating PV in the event that peginterferon alfa-2a (Pegasys®) is unavailable, helping maintain continuity of care.

Cognitive fog in #polycythemiavera — what’s causing it? 

PV patients sometimes report memory lapses, trouble focusing, but why? Research points to low oxygen delivery, microvascular issues & chronic inflammation.  

We need answers. More research = better brain health.
