Excited to share, my proposal for the 2026 NCHE Conference—“Road Tripping Through Black Routes and Resistance: Teaching Diaspora, Migration, and Survival”—has been accepted as a breakout session.

The idea grew from the Teaching African American History Webinar Series with National History Day.

Honored to be invited to speak (virtually) at the 2025 American Education Week Luncheon Celebration✨

Though I can’t be there in person this Friday, I’m proud to support such a powerful effort to preserve and celebrate Black history in education. 🖤

At the 2025 #NHTOY celebration, my former student Natalie spoke in my honor. 💛

“Ms. Abbott never stops believing in her students who they are, and who they can and will be.”

Reminding us that history is never the past and that’s the work I’ll always stand by. @gliamericanhistory.bsky.social

So while curating my stack of giveaway books for Saturday, I came across one that didn’t meet the awards criteria but was too good to pass up for my classroom library. 📚 Perfect timing too we’re diving into immigration today. It barely hit the shelf before a student checked it out! 🙌🏽 #LetTheKidsRead

📚 One of my favorite parts of serving on the Carter G. Woodson Book Committee (NCSS) is sharing great children’s books! I’ll have a stack ready this Saturday at Bethel AME Church’s Sunday School picnic in Reidsville. Come for fellowship, food & free books! ✨

Bell ringer = “Building Vocabulary Words!”
Today’s word: Prerogative. Naturally, I played Bobby Brown’s “My Prerogative.”

Not one student recognized it and one even asked how to pronounce it.
How are they being raised if they don’t know this song?!

So impressed with this month's cover of the @theatlantic.com magazine that I turned it into a poster for my classroom. Found the theme that I will be using with my students for 2026! #America250 #America250NC #LearningHappensHere #LocalHistoryMatters

✨ It’s a powerful thing to be in the room when history is happening! Today, I had that honor as PENC officially became an affiliate of AFT a milestone moment for educators in North Carolina.

And to top it off, I got to have my book signed by the one and only Randi Weingarten! 🙌🏾📚

Such a reflective moment in my teaching career, and tomorrow, I will be acknowledged at the RCS School Board Meeting. As Bluesky has become my educational platform, I want to thank every educator who crossed my path. We know great teachers build upon great teachers. I could not be me without you!

When I thought my in-person PD was done, I had one more, and it was a game-changer. It nearly slipped my mind since it was so close to home, but today’s session was highly engaging and just what I needed to ease back into classroom life before RECHS teachers return next week. #TeacherSummer2025

Book lover + history teacher = magic moments like this! 📚💥 On Day 5 of the Martin & Doris Rosen Symposium, I met the author Kathy Kacer and got a signed copy of “Under the Iron Bridge.” Her story brings history alive with heart, humanity, and lived truth. #TeacherSummer2025 #TeachBoldly

Two & ½ days into the Martin & Doris Rosen Symposium of Holocaust study is an incredible yet intense journey. As a history teacher, I know how we teach matters. I paused in App State’s gardens surrounded by hydrangeas & the vibrant Black‑eyed Susan to find peace. 🌼
