mentioning shinji kimura is always gonna be cheating but he's the first person that always comes to mind when I think about appealing gritty settings. so much more variety when it comes to approaching texture and roughness.. I know painted BGs are kind of a cheat, but still!

Setting design is real weak, no getting around that. and it's always gonna drag my enjoyment down. So many moments where I find myself thinking "wow this is the cleanest post-apocalyptic wasteland I've ever seen" ahahaha. the signifiers of decay but no interesting takes or texture
