I understand that is how it started but it has become increasingly complex and requires departments of HR ppl to manage these plans annually. It is a massive expense and if big corporations could offload this ‘benefit’ and focus on competing for talent with higher salaries, why wouldn’t they?

I have never understood why employers want to be bothered with dealing with the hassles of providing health insurance. Why don’t businesses push for the government to take on this responsibility via M4A? Insurance companies should be scrapped as you suggested.
