I don't know why other people do it, but when I choose the evil options in video games, it's usually just out of a sense of mischief. Video games let you break rules without getting in trouble IRL or hurting a real person, and that can be fun in certain settings.

I kind of actually do this for real. I have some friends who have really good taste and other friends who have compulsions to optimize everything. So I just do what they do and it's good enough most of the time.

Setting the moral issues aside -- which is difficult to do -- I think source of the disparity is that Trump doesn't have a base of voters or donors who want the tariffs -- it's only Trump who wants them for his own weird reasons. The other stuff, while horrible, is what they elected him to do.

The thing is, I can *remember* being able to hear the high pitched sounds emitted by electronics. I can play back the sounds in my head, but I can't hear it with my ears anymore, and I expect I'll never be able to hear it again.
