The bright new #comet temporarily named SWAN25F has now been formally designated C/2025 F2 (SWAN)

The orbit is perpendicular to the ecliptic (i=90.4°) from north to south. Perihelion will occur on May 1 at 0.33 au from the sun.

It will reach perihelion in May of this year at 2 au from the sun.

Perihelion was on Feb 14. It currently has an orbital period of 26.6 years.

It has an orbital period of 7.9 years. Last perihelion occurred in July of 2024.

New object on a cometary orbit confirmed: A/2025 A7

It is on a retrograde (i=134°) orbit, reaching perihelion on March 28 at 2.9 au from the sun.

New periodic #comet confirmed: P/2025 D2 (PANSTARRS)

The current orbital elements (based on 13 observations dating back to Feb 4) give perihelion in Jan 2028 at 7.2 au from the sun, and a 29.7 year orbital period.

New, distant #comet confirmed:
C/2025 D1 (Groeller)

The comet is on a highly inclined orbit, reaching perihelion in May 2028 at a record distance of 14.1 au from the sun!
Pre-discovery observations are dating back to June 2018.

C/2025 A6 (Lemmon)

It approaches on a retrograde orbit and may reach mag 10 in October of this year. Perihelion occurs in November. The current orbital elements imply a ~1386 year orbital period.

C/2025 A4 (PANSTARRS)

It reached perihelion on January 14 at 3.8 au from the sun. The current orbital elements give it an orbital period of 36 years.

The current orbital elements give it a short orbital period of 33 years, a relatively low inclination of 10° and a large perihelion destance of 5.7 au.

New Jupiter-family comet confirmed: P/2025 A2 (PANSTARRS)

Pre-discovery observations date back to 27 Nov 2024.
It appears to have approached Jupiter to 0.31 au in Nov 2022, reducing its orbital period by 2 years to 11.5 years.

An object discovered last August has been redesignated following the confirmation of cometary activity:
C/2024 PN7 (PANSTARRS)

The #comet has an orbital period of 552 years. Perihelion already occurred on Dec. 6, 2024.

The current orbital elements by the MPC (based on just 6 days of observations) imply that it is already past perihelion and will be closest to earth (at ~1 au) on January 12.

Perihelion was last September. It approached Jupiter to 1.1 AU in September of 2023, which increased its period by almost a year to the current 18.3 years.

The comet is approaching from the south on a highly inclined orbit. It will reach perihelion in July of 2025. The current orbital elements give it a period of 237 years.
