A lot of people max out their housing budget in order to live in a larger home and look successful.
Most homes 40-50 miles outside of Silicon Valley being built are McMansions - 3,500-6,000 sq ft tract homes. It’s hideous.

I agree that no one person can stop it. But in other nations, when politicians do crazy things, there are mass protests in the streets.
Americans in general don’t care as much and don’t go out in numbers to protest.
We’re lulled to sleep by ineffective opposition (elected Dems) and shitty press.
