During a meeting Wednesday, the Vallejo City Unified School District’s Board of Education declined to adopt a document that would have allowed Elite Public Schools, a charter school, to apply for state funding to build 13 classrooms. Superintendent Ruben Aurelio said it would cause financial risks.

Vallejo housing department closure draws confusion, worry. A local real estate agent said the closure has affected the ability of landlords to collect payments for rental assistance programs. The closure is due to “severe staffing shortages” and to allow staff to address service backlogs.

A Vallejo neighborhood has been told to shelter in place after a man fired a shotgun in the street this morning and locked himself in his house, police and neighbors say.

Police have blocked off Sutter St between Illinois and Nebraska and a SWAT team is on scene.
