Some things I learned from doing this that are important to making it look like a smile:
-cheek shape and wrinkles around the mouth
-teeth positioning-not showing the lower teeth too much or at all
-lower jaw length- depending on the intensity of the laugh or smile
-eyebrows - usually pretty far up.
