Yeeeep. When that shit happened to me as a kid all the people railing against pedos were the first to come to my abuser’s defense and hide him from the police. They only hate them in an abstract way. As soon as someone they know gets accused suddenly it’s ‘my friend/father/etc would NEVER!’.

Honestly I stopped paying as much attention to stars. I've come across books with 5 stars that are terrible and 2 stars that are amazing. Now I tend to go by if my favorite people or spaces—who I know have the same taste in books as me—are raving about it.
