After a long silence, one of the elders said “except, when we were across the street at (HBCU) Prairie View University, we suggested we close our meeting with the “Black National Anthem”, and not one of those college kids had any idea what we were talking about.

Several years ago, while serving at a historically black church, I, in all my whiteness, suggested to some of the church elders over coffee that was integration of our schools was a “good thing”.

Let’s celebrate the NFL for today pushing back against the anti-DEI position of our current political leadership and opening the Super Bowl ceremonies with “Lift Every Voice and Sing”, known to many as the “Black National Anthem”.

So on a rare Monday date my spouse and I went to 3 different local Mexican food joints and found all 3 closed, despite posted hours casting otherwise. Our first thought (sorry) was I.C.E. was in town and scared everyone off, then I read this:

Denver Mayor Mike Johnson has vowed to maintain his city’s sanctuary status, refuse to allow local police to participate in raids, and declared 50,000 Denverites would stand at the county line to keep the deportation forces out. Reach out to your mayor & ask them to make to pledge sanctuary. 🗽
