One of my dream projects.
It would really serve no function other than to introduce people to the monthly movement of the Sun. You would be able to change the changes in the Sun's apparent diameter from aphelion to perihelion.
Alas, only a dream.

Nice work!
I was unable to get the exact dates for perihelion and aphelion exactly, because of our weather, but here is 27th June and 29th December, 2024, taken with my old Samsung Galaxy J through my old Selsi/Towa 60mm, my sunspot telescope.

Today's Sun, 12th January 2025, at 2:30pm ET.
It meant a lot to me to be able to get this. This winter has been horribly overcast so far.

There is a very slight variation in the apparent size of the Sun at aphelion and perihelion, about 3.6%. While I wasn't able to get two images six months apart on both days, I did manage 29th June and 27th December 2024.
Simple afocal images through a modest 60mm telescope.

From our friends at the Astronomical League.
It is important to remember that telescopes, even mediocre ones, were once quite pricey. Amateurs of modest means still found ways, fortunately.
Also, I wax between Medieval and Minimalism.

Today's Sun, 30th December,2024, at 2:57pm ET.
I wasn't expecting to get any sunspot work accomplished today, let alone a picture. Yet, here we are.
I suspect this is it for the remainder of the year.

Today's Sun, 28th December, 2024, just as the clouds were rolling back in.

My balcony analemma. Fun project so far.

Today's Sun, 27th December 2024, at 12:37pm ET or thereabouts.
High thin clouds, but I managed it.
December 28, 2024 at 4:05 AM
Incidentally, of the six images I took, this was the best. As you can see, some work was required.
December 27, 2024 at 12:40 AM
Today's Sun, 26th December, 2024, at about 1:05pm ET.
Quite cloudy, but I managed. No large spots, but it is quite active nonetheless.
My image (have to give the photographer credit. He gets crabby otherwise).

Today's Sun, 21st December, 2024. Overprocessed? Yup. I was actually shooting through clouds.
But I did it.

When is a comet not a comet?
When it's the planet Mercury.

Happy Solstice?
Okay, I almost had a clear shot at the Sun with the Universal/Equatorial. Alas.
At least I was able to record the solstice on my balcony analemma. Sort of (fuzzy shadow).
December 21, 2024 at 5:43 PM
Happy Solstice! The Sun has cleared its southern most point and will now slowly tread north.
It will get warmer in the north. Eventually. Patience, children.

My 2025 Lunar & Planetary Almanac. Is it messy? Of course, but so am I.
