I grew up EXTREMELY religious and am now atheist. The cringe is real. I most mourn having lost the portion of my journal that I wrote during that transition (was in physical form and got lost). Even if it's not consistent, having a place to work out your thoughts/feelings/experiences is valuable.

Learned the hard way, never purge your journal because of cringe. No matter how much your thoughts and feelings may have changed, there is value in seeing how much you've grown. And once gone, you can't recreate/replace it. 2/3

Yes, it can feel a bit dumb to re-read. I try to write as if I'm trying to explain things to a very close friend who has no idea what's going on. My long term memory isn't great, so often my journal IS my long term memory... making that "friend" my future self. 1/2

I don't bullet journal, but have kept a diary/journal inconsistently for decades. I absolutely feel better when I journal.
