YES! You are right, that's even closer than Solaris. I loved Roadside Picnic, the whole premise of that one still haunts me.

I am always intrigued by hype like "Horror's Scariest Writer" when it's someone I haven't heard of. Looking this guy up, I have read him before, because he had a short story in a Bruce Coville collection.
(to be fair, those also had Ray Bradbury and To Serve Man etc, but still, ASJGJDFK)

Annihilation was one I got recently to force myself to actually read it. I just realized it's very short, so I should just do that now and read Definitely Maybe after.
Or I will like Annihilation so much I'll need to buy the other three, which is good and bad.

Yeah, I've heard a ton of good things about Vandermeer! I've had a lot of folks recommend Dead Astronauts and Hummingbird Salamander, but I figured I should just start with Annihilation. I gotta know.

The Skeletons era of horror novel is often Not Good. I have been burned before by misleading titles, but to be fair, this one sounds awesome.

Leaning toward Definitely Maybe. Was going to do that for sure before rummaging. That and Annihilation will both be good.
I got Skeletons recently, and am excited about that. I would be devastated if it was boring, though.

This is super cute! I was gonna say that Orikan was the only one cringing, but he's only putting up a token resistance with his facial expression, he's otherwise going all in.
I'm also picturing Trazyn holding a scarab in his fist for this, which is very funny.

It's not a trilogy! There's a fourth book that's not out yet. I'm weird about that and like to know in advance if I'll need to wait. I haven't read the third one for this reason.
