He/Him. Interests are horror media and anything nautical-themed.

My channel used to talk about Doctor Who but the long-term goal is to become even more irrelevant.

ROME, S1E11, "The Spoils"

Best episode of TV I've watched this year. It's unreal how they got me to cheer for these bastards

DEATH IN HEAVEN

Some ways I judge this are unfair (it should have come before Time of the Doctor), but it is less elegant than Part 1.

That said, Clara, Danny, 12 in the graveyard WORKS. Any second I'm out, they pull me back in with a line delivery or expression

Got this for research for my novel. Great stuff so far!

Kill List, man. New favourite. The cult calmly rocking up in the eleventh hour with torches and nudity elicits that feeling of reading Innsmouth for the first time.

The grimy, unidealistic tale and characters getting upended as it turns out what genre they've been doing all this time is wonderful

DARK WATER

Beyond mature, almost don't blame Moffat for throwing in the kiss scene for levity. Maybe a better idea than a premise, but it's uncharted territory.

Bookended by Danny & 12 driving Clara to act out her threat, reveals so much about all 3. Anderson floors me.

Watched the Raging Bull for the first time. Might be the best of Martin's I've seen, even if it's not my favourite. The awfulness of the character comes at you, fittingly, like a boxer's swings.

For one episode of TV, Smith's Doctor became a childish, mournful ghost who will pityingly take his enemy by the hand and guide him gently to the past he's been running away from.

IN THE FOREST OF THE NIGHT

Kill the Moon for the kids! Tight script, a refreshing tempo that direction leans into.

The fairytale references stack on each other, that final note IS as stupid as people say it is. But otherwise... we think this one is underestimated, guys.

FLATLINE

The Dr-lite Dimensional Dilemma. It's more good stuff! Lives in my head less as its own story and more as another step in 12 and Clara's journeys. But it's impossible to imagine this series without it. Goldmine for weird visuals and ideas.

MUMMY ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS

Stylish, lavish monster hunt. Maisie is a little thin, Clara is less front and centre. But it's otherwise standard Doctor Who done with white hot precision and interesting themes adorning it. Andrew wishes Gus came back.

KILL THE MOON

Bites off *maybe* more than it can chew & some beats need more than Capaldi and A Good Man blaring to totally sell them to me.

But it's some of the best dialogue & performances in the history of the show. That ending is deftly built up to

THE CARETAKER

The actors are simply punching above the material, tho Capaldi is ill-served here with the PE bit.

Noteworthy thematic stuff for days; 12 convincing the Blitzer he's its CO. But all is undercut by that flip... Danny should have saved the day using maths.

TIME HEIST

Andrew reckons this is probably the most River story not to feature River.

Something had to go between Listen and The Caretaker but no one on this site watches this episode for the plot anyway. Well constructed schedule filler.

RECAP: Andrew's experience of this was ruined by me telling him about Big Finish's ... contribution

I, on the other hand, think it's pretty neat.

INTO THE DALEK

Once again, the highlights are new stuff; Capaldi, the direction, Danny 😍 The context of what came later helps.

But other components drag it down. Any idea why Journey Blue wanted to go with the man who spent an episode pissing her off?

DEEP BREATH

Holdovers from the last year offset by some ruminations on age, rot, cannibalisation, existential anxiety and identity. Fun.

Hits its stride as soon as Clara and 12 reach the restaurant.

My rating: 8/10

Really enjoyed this after seeing it for the first time.

Early days for live adaptations so I expected something more typical. That went out the window with the misdirect in the opening & the character entering like a horror movie monster. Keaton somehow makes Bruce the most interesting thing

THE EXTINCTION

Fear of a massive, apocalyptic change which will usher in the whatever comes after humanity, often linked with technology.

Daleks, Cybermen and Toclofane are linked with atomic horror, manmade catastrophes and existential terror of creatures taking our place.

THE END

Fear of death, it's old, simple, often passive because it knows it will eventually win.

The Glove from Torchwood would make a good artifact. Death from the VNAs and Audios, the Veil in the confession dial and Trask in Alien Bodies.
