Yeah I was just trying to find out which species tend to hybridize with S. Scouleriana. Internet says it “forms natural hybrids with S. hookeriana, S. planifolia, and S. pulchra” but the source for this seems to be just a link to a general flora of North America database flora.huh.harvard.edu/fna/

Looking at photos of Salix discolor and they look like my idea of pussy Willow edgeofthewoodsnursery.com/wp-content/u...

And I didn’t think Salix scouleriana was one of the species with the “pussy willow” common name but I’m less certain about that.

I’m not a willow expert but I thought Scouler’s willow looked more like this

Funny, I guess the blooms of red flowering currant do look a little tropical I guess? I’m not a botanist but I think I know what you mean.

I wouldn’t rake up any needles — they likely give nutrients to the soil. And don’t add amendments to soil. Unless it’s for vegetable gardening or growing some exotic plants.

Many (most?) plants native to this region prefer acidic soil. Vaccinium ovatum grows faster in shade. I’ve heard its ideal conditions are some morning light and afternoon shade.

… many plants grow in the shady forest understory beneath firs and pines. Some others: Sword fern, vancouveria hexandra, possibly Adenocaulon bicolor. Fragaria vesca, oxalis oregana.

2. Do you know the species of tree? Is it possibly a Doug fir? Asking because people commonly refer to a lot of different evergreen trees as pines.
Shouldn’t be too hard to get the right kind of dry shade plants to grow there. Even if the tree isn’t native to this region….

Fringecup, Hookers fairybells, Berberis nervosa, vine maple, male osoberry plants should be able to grow fine in shade.

I laughed when the words “snake show” were spoken right after the Timothy open robe incident.
March 11, 2025 at 3:50 AM
Saint Timothy was known for getting circumcised as an adult. Not sure if that’s relevant to Timothy’s wardrobe malfunction.

Just seems weird to give a gun to someone who 1. doesn’t know how to use it yet 2. just made a big mistake at work 3. didn’t even realize how much he messed up and was even expecting a promotion

And as awful and deliberately delusional as she is, she was the only one to accurately point out that there was probably a murderer among the people on the boat.

And “Snake show” were two of the first words uttered in the next scene.

Maybe it’s only possible to speculate at least for right now.

So far I’ve read that the relatively heavy rains from the last year or two have caused more vegetation to grow which provides more fuel for wildfires. But nothing yet about *which* new growth vegetation has been more effective fuel.

Not sure. Right now I’m following everyone who uses this hashtag or who is in one of these comment threads. #PNWNativeGardening
