I find both of these rather humanizing. You would expect the Buddha to have more confidence in his abilities and to immediately blow away the first person he meets, but it doesn't go down like that. #Buddhism

The second is that the first person to whom the Buddha declares his enlightenment- the Ājīvaka ascetic Upaka - doesn't believe him, and poetically "[takes] a wrong turn" when departing.

The first is that the Buddha hesitates to teach the Dhamma - he doesn't think that anyone will be able to understand it. It's only after the urging of the deity Sahampati that he sees "beings with little dust in their eyes" who will be receptive to the teaching.
