That’s interesting also, thanks.
Do we know if there’s a calculation in there for the proportion of that which is linked to a store visit…? If that’s zero it makes the number of previously online only businesses opting for bricks & mortar stores (long term or pop up) seem a bit optimistic of them…?

Yep. And if you’d written it today you’d likely have added that WFH is potentially making for an even bigger gap between footfall and sales…?

Maybe. But if the feet used to walk from the bus stop to the office and back and are now WFH there’s a big drop in footfall but little impact on spend. I’m simplifying I know but it feels like there’s a case not to say “footfall is X and therefore policy should be Y” (which is where this started)…?

Is that another issue. Footfall data is asked to carry a burden it’s not up to. 1. It’s one number taken to apply to every place when it doesn’t. 2. We’ve no idea what the feet are actually doing eg going to work, taking touristy photos but not #highstreet spending. Is monthly really that helpful…?

Maybe go #HighStreetPositives as @grahamsoult.bsky.social suggests: “Retail is a major employer with determined, resilient, innovative people at every level. It’s doing great stuff in challenging times and could make an even bigger contribution to your growth target given supportive policy & regs…?”
