This a speech by someone who has lost his connection to reality, to the extent that he ever had any. This is the most powerful man in the world, running its most ostensibly crucial country. And we, and the world, will have to somehow survive the reign of a stark raving lunatic. I am not optimistic.

This great film was faithful to this great novel in plot, mood, gruesome violence, and sense of apocalyptic malaise. The film ended with the same ambiguity as the novel, maintaining its faith to the book until its nihilistic end.
