The UW Nathan Shock Center is enthusiastic to announce a request for applications for a multi-center collaboration with the NSCs of the Jackson Laboratory and the University of Oklahoma. Please see the call below!
November 21, 2025 at 10:54 PM
Trainee Spotlight! Elyse Christensen is a PhD candidate in Dr. Nicolas Lehrbach’s lab at Fred Hutch Cancer Center. She is investigating how the mechanisms and regulation of ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation affect cellular function as we age.
November 21, 2025 at 10:52 PM
Trainee Spotlight! Dr. Cristina Gildee is a postdoctoral fellow in the Primate Evolutionary Biomechanics Lab (PEBL) in the Department of Anthropology. Her work examines how reproductive history, cellular aging, and inflammation influence bone remodeling and aging.
November 18, 2025 at 12:31 AM
Trainee spotlight! Dr. Chris Arian is a postdoc in Dr. Jessica Young’s lab. His research focuses on utilizing human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) derived neurons and cortical organoids to assess the impact of perturbing signature aging genes’ expression on cell function.
November 7, 2025 at 7:47 PM
Trainee Spotlight! Dr. Liza Severs is a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Dr. Aakanksha Singhvi, in the Basic Sciences Department at Fred Hutch Cancer Center. She is interested in studying how glia communicate with neurons to impact behavior, and how this changes with age.
November 7, 2025 at 7:47 PM
Trainee spotlight! Dr. Shyleen Frost is currently as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Alice Kane's lab. She is studying epigenetic patterns, including DNA methylation and histone modifications, and their relationship with frailty and sex differences in aging.
November 7, 2025 at 7:47 PM
Trainee Spotlight! Sarah Tomlin is a PhD student in the Molecular and Cellular Biology program in the Lehrbach Lab at Fred Hutch. Sarah’s focus is on understanding how the scaffolding protein ECPS-1 influences proteasome regulation and elucidating the regulatory pathways that govern proteostasis.

Trainee Spotlight! Each week you will meet 1 of the 12 amazing trainees from our BMHA T32 program.

First, Emily Teets!
Emily is a PhD candidate in the lab of Dr. Aakanksha Singhvi. They study the effect of disease-relevant genes on glia-neuron interactions and use C. elegans as a model organism.
