This year, we brought science to Pride. 🌈

Led by a group of BCMB graduate students, faculty, staff and students donned their lab coats and other science-themed outfits and participated in the Pride Parade.

Everyone is welcome in Science. ❤️

Celebrating our graduates is the best time of every year. ❤️

Over 400 Science students crossed the stage earlier this week, picking up their degree on the way to the next stage of their life.

We're so proud of each and every one.

“I feel extremely privileged to be able to not only be here and see all these amazing sights firsthand, but to be part of the first all-Canadian expedition in Antarctica. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind...but I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be here.” - @tiaanderlini.bsky.social #WorldWaterDay

It’s not all work! Tia’s also had the chance to meet some penguins. Their MRRB was surrounded by a raft of penguins one day, doing little dives in and out of the water. #WorldWaterDay

Tia and her colleagues head out on the multi-role rescue boat (MRRB) every day. She samples seawater using a 6.5 m pole-sampler at the surface and deploys a Go-Flo water sampler down a kevlar line to collect water at varying depths. #WorldWaterDay

More specifically, Tia is collecting seawater samples for the analysis of trace metals, which are biologically important in the ocean as both micronutrients and toxins. #WorldWaterDay
March 22, 2025 at 4:03 PM
Tia’s focus on this expedition is to investigate how regional warming is impacting the mobility of trace metals in coastal zones (e.g. due to glacial melt and coastal erosion). #WorldWaterDay

Welcome to Antarctica! PhD student Tia Anderlini (@tiaanderlini.bsky.social) is currently in Antarctica as a research scientist on board the HMCS Margaret Brooke. This trip marks the first circumnavigation of South America and visit to Antarctica by a Royal Canadian Navy vessel. #WorldWaterDay
