On web the other day. There’s a new Premium CTA, a half-screen banner, and the rest of the screen is an ad. Ugh 😫

Yes please!

Almost everyone (with a large following) whom I follow has at some point said something that’s gotten harsh criticism, but there’s also just as much support and encouragement (at least on bsky, I think). It’s a tough mental block to kick, but I think it’s important!

Being here makes me *want* to post more, but I’ve been hesitant to post for some reason I can’t quite articulate. I’ve been thinking about this though, and want to write about how it’s more important than ever to *have an opinion* and express it.

Loosely, a “middleman” for my traffic that can be designed/used for different things - bypassing geo restrictions, using a diff DNS (1.1.1.1), accessing resources on a secure network, etc.

…it’ll be wise to probably build a basic avatar component and keep in mind that my next PR will likely be adding the user’s chosen border colour around the picture. Anything beyond this would be premature abstraction imo!

…you’re likely to build? Maybe abstract for that. For example, if I have to build an avatar component, and I know right now I just need to show a profile picture in a circle, I won’t overthink it. But if I know that in the next cycle, we’re going to allow colourful borders…

I’m consciously honing this skill, and I think it helps to remember that

1. unless your software demands it, performance/elegance is a *quality* and not a requirement, within reason of course. If the code gets the job done, ship it.

2. Think of the product roadmap. What’s the next feature (1/2)

Whenever I’m on the other app now, I feel like someone is *constantly* screaming in the background. Agree, this is so much more enjoyable! I’m looking forward to sharing my work here and making friends!

Seconded!

Could be a mix of increased Dev speed + things being stable/performant enough that you don’t have to worry about something breaking under stress or regressing

Also, using language like “an image of…” or “a picture of…” is redundant because screen readers will already announce the image. Learned this the other day from a11y warnings in Remix.

Riiiiiight?! I find myself not missing it at all now.

Tool I built to look at a JD and tell me which of my projects I should add to my generic resume to make it fit the JD. Best $5 I’ve spent to date!

So cool! Lately I’ve been having a lot of fun building small personal use utils for my job applications and stuff. I’m also the TA for an undergrad course and I’ve been recommending my students to try building similar tools to help their projects. Small “side quests” w/ unlimited possibilities :D

Is this what the early days were like? 🤓

I’d love technical posts here. The absence of promoted posts/ads/general noise here is refreshing, and I think you might see more “genuine” interactions!🤞
