Utilitarian. 'The good of any one individual is of no more importance, from the point of view of the Universe, than the good of any other’ — Henry Sidgwick.

They aren’t going to get off Twitter completely because they have to reach a wide audience.

Propose this instead: Starmer and other ministers should post all non-partisan messages (condolences, congratulations) exclusively on this platform.

Broadcasters and journalists will have to come here.

For someone who doesn’t have rent or mortgage costs, £12,000 a year is absolutely sufficient. Use your brain and do some arithmetic.

Obviously, the State Pension should rise in line with inflation. But not in line with whatever’s highest out of CPI, wage growth and 2.5%
September 15, 2025 at 9:13 AM
This means that the broadcasters have to say “writing on Bluesky” and it means more attention has to be paid to this platform by journalists.

Obviously, the same should go for others.

And it shouldn’t be beyond the power of the executive to get agencies like the ONS to exclusively post here.
September 15, 2025 at 9:09 AM
They should have done so back in November when people were flocking to Bluesky.

But they’re not going to get off there completely because they feel they need to reach a wide audience.

Propose this instead: Starmer should make all non-partisan announcements (congratulations, condolences) on Bluesky

The 75-80% of “grannies” who don’t have rent or mortgage costs don’t need a winter fuel handout. £12,000 a year is perfectly comfortable for them.

The welfare cuts didn’t go ahead.

I’m feeling much better off than I was a year ago. Petrol and diesel prices are lower and my salary is up.
September 10, 2025 at 10:23 AM
My electricity bills are pretty similar to what they were a couple of years ago — around £35 to £45 a month — despite my consumption having risen since then.

My gas bills are also similar.

Meanwhile, I’ve had multiple pay rises since then.

It isn’t bigoted to want net migration to fall to levels seen from 1997-2019.
September 10, 2025 at 10:20 AM
The Green position on immigration is the extreme one, not the moderate one, if you look at the median voter’s views.

So if Labour did move closer to the Green position, they would definitely lose in 2029. Just as the Greens will never, ever win power in this country.
September 2, 2025 at 6:45 PM
Okay, that’s your decision.

Unfortunately, if you were Prime Minister and said that out loud, you would be putting yourself on the wrong side of the British public and doing exactly what the far-right want you to do.
September 2, 2025 at 6:44 PM
They're ahead of every other party in the polls.
September 2, 2025 at 4:47 PM
The Greens will get absolutely nowhere, because their views on social issues and immigration are far from the median of the British public.

Denmark's Social Democrats vanquished the far-right by dealing with immigration. Labour should follow their lead, not listen to liberal pundits.
September 2, 2025 at 4:41 PM
They shouldn’t need to be “socially useful or environmentally sensitive”.

Developers are there to build homes, and we know that more market-rate housing reduces rents and house prices.

The housebuilding boom in Austin reduced rents by 22%.

The Green Party is a gift to Reform.

The left are going to wish they had a Home Secretary saying something as mild and uncontroversial as this as this come 2029.
September 2, 2025 at 4:05 PM
Would you have preferred her to lie?

“No, I don’t have any flags on my property, and I actually hate the flag”
September 2, 2025 at 4:01 PM
No, the left has lost the plot. None of what Cooper said should be controversial. Stop ceding the flag to the far-right.

The mosque in Birkenhead that found a Union flag on their railings and flew it proudly in their window had the right idea. It amazes me that the left keep taking the bait.
September 2, 2025 at 4:00 PM
None of this should be controversial, especially to someone who prides themselves on getting “out of Westminster”.

Stop ceding the flag to the far-right.

The mosque in Birkenhead that found a Union flag on their railings and flew it proudly in their window had exactly the right idea.

The status quo is rising rents and house prices because it takes so long to build housing in this country and it’s effectively illegal to do so in large parts of the country.
September 2, 2025 at 3:56 PM
The left don’t care. They’ll happily split the vote.
September 2, 2025 at 8:15 AM
He isn’t pretending to be one of them.

Stop with the ridiculous hyperbole.
September 2, 2025 at 8:14 AM
Sarah, have you seen what Elon Musk is posting on Twitter?

You have to get the Prime Minister to post all non-partisan messages on Bluesky alone to get more journalists on here.

He can still make party political arguments on the other app to reach others. But you need to get off that platform.

If we did have proportional representation, Reform and the Conservatives would be in a coalition

I’m sorry, but you have to accept that the public are by and large ill-informed, unintelligent and irrational.

And you therefore have to pander to them.
September 2, 2025 at 8:07 AM
They'll find something else to talk about but they won't win power.

Reform was a fringe party before the Conservatives gave us record high net migration and Channel crossings.
August 23, 2025 at 10:19 AM
Attitudes toward immigration improved significantly after the Brexit vote, because people thought they'd taken back control.

Then, they were given record high net migration and Channel crossings.

Sort out the Channel crossings and the fascists won't be able to make headway.
August 23, 2025 at 10:18 AM
If Labour stopping irregular migration makes them "hard-right", then a clear majority of the British people are "hard-right". Unfortunately, we live in a democracy, so the consent of the people is required to govern.
