VIX term structure has been in deep backwardation for roughly a week, maybe longer. There is still a LOT of "this will blow over"-style sentiment out there.

I love the spirit of the Longfellow quote, but if a person is being aggressively hostile to me, those I love, or institutions that I love, petty and mendacious at every turn... the mere knowledge of "why" would not be enough to disarm my hostility.

In chart form, everybody remembers the BLUE arrow, which I believe is the recent advance, without even a passing acknowledgement of the RED arrow showing lower returns, even at lower vals.
