It’s not just the rebuild where I think we should take inspiration from Arteta, its the culture. Look at the form players like Lewis-Skelly, Trossard, and Martinelli are in this year despite getting less minutes. It’s clear having to fight for their spot has taken them to new levels.

What does concern me is that when we do bring in younger players, we don’t seem to be incorporating them into the squad in a way which fosters any sense of jeopardy or competition in the rest of the team.

I’m not concerned by players like Goldie and Godfrey finding success elsewhere because I think its sort of enivitable that an academy like Arsenals will not be able to make good use of every single talented youngster it produces (and its probably healthy for the league that we don’t!)

people really underestimate how much luck and timing are involved with academy players transitioning into the first team. It’s not just about the quality of the player, its about the individual attributes they bring and wether they would serve the first team at that specific juncture.
