Betz Chair of Ecology at Drexel University in Philadelphia. Urban ecology & evolution, landscape genetics, native plants, rats, lichens. Problematic political opinions all my own!
I've been sitting on this news for awhile, but people keep asking: Happy to announce that I have accepted the position of Betz Chair and Professor in the Department of Biodiversity, Earth & Environmental Science (BEES) @DrexelUniv ! I will make the move officially in September!

My sophomore high school kid is getting bombarded with email and snail mail from universities, presumably because he took the PSAT or an AP test or something. Pretty weird to see him get recruitment mail from my employer 😀. OTOH, the marketing techniques are very similar across schools

The Harold's on 53rd had a bulletproof rotating window! Lots of choices here...I would go with Rajun Cajun, the place where you could get tandoori chicken and a samosa with sides of cornbread and collared greens

Rain broke and there are several palm warblers feeding in the meadows, pumping their tails. I forgot how late they migrate!

Saw a bee narrowly escape my tallest pitcher plant this morning. Took it almost a minute to get out, as it kept slipping back in. The meadow still has some bright colors but not for much longer. New England asters, late boneset, various goldenrods still in bloom

Jewelweed, an Impatiens, is one of my favorite native wildflowers. Currently flowering heavily and being visited often by hummingbirds
