Maybe the most important point to make: The “settings” thing all assumes that Facebook is not going to bend rules/break the law. But they have a long long long history of doing just that. Remember when it was discovered that Messenger was using your mic at all times in the background?

What is the difference between an app and a website? In practical terms, nothing. They still know what you see, where you go, what you write, etc etc. In fact, when using a web browser, it is easy to track what site you came from and what site you went to, so you’re giving them more info.

There are no settings you can change to make you less valuable to Meta. If you believe that you can use their platforms without being subject to their algorithms and without having your data and actions monetized, you are being woefully ignorant.
