The June 6, 1944, D-Day assault on Normandy, France, reminds me of the men and women who selflessly fought to stop Hitler and preserve freedom. Recently walking on Omaha Beach and through the nearby American Cemetary was humbling. I share my photos in honor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Listen to this bald eagle sing her mating call. Bald eagles can grow 2-3 feet high with wingspans as wide as eight feet. They mate for life. Females lay two or three eggs. In the wild, bald eagles can live 20-30 years.

This Hawaiian monk seal is the rarest seal in U.S. waters and one of the most endangered mammals in the world. NOAA estimates there are only 153 monk seals in the Hawaiian island chain.
