Started reading Let Us Descend by Jesmyn Ward on my lunchbreak and just. Wow.
Excerpt from a book: Chapter 1, Mama's Bladed Hands. The first weapon I ever held was my mother's hand. I was a small child then, soft at the belly. On that night, my mother woke me and led me out to the Caroline woods, deep, deep into the murmuring trees, black with the sun's leaving. The bones in her fingers: blades in sheaths, but I did not know this yet.

Hear me out: Buck didn't actually take a bigger risk than usual, but Eddie is worried because he's not going to be around to watch his back so even his regular levels of recklessness feel like too much.

Throwback Thursday, so here's one of my favourite pieces of writing from a posted buddie fic (Apricity).

Buck knowing without really knowing he's in love with Eddie? Classic.
Fic excerpt text. Maddie’s smile is dim as she puts her hand on his cheek. "Tell me one thing - does he make you happy?" Buck looks out at the patio where Tommy is laughing at something Chim said, and he doesn't know how to answer. He'd been happy when Tommy kissed him, and every confusing thought he'd ever had about men suddenly made sense. The attraction wrapped up in envy, the inexplicable desire to be noticed, all of it. But everything after? That's where the lines start to blur. Fic excerpt text. Happiness is - it's sleeping on couches and late night talks in the kitchen when it feels like everyone else just wants you to be normal again. It's having each other's backs and being so intertwined that you're not sure where they end and you begin, you just know that you'd give anything for it to stay like that forever. That you'd never do anything to risk it. Tommy doesn't make him feel all of that, but maybe Buck can settle for being happy enough.

I'm still here, because I keep thinking about how they've said everything will be changed for the 118 after this upcoming arc, and now we are talking about tension between characters who normally don't have any. Just what kind of saw trap are we coming back to? Also the s5 parallel of them isolated

Whatever you do, don't think about Eddie waiting until he can't see Buck in his rearview mirror anymore and using the Bluetooth in his truck to call him. Buck stays on the phone and keeps him company because he knows Eddie hates LA traffic -c-
