The UNISON Higher Education pay ballot closes this FRIDAY 28TH! 🚨

Ballots must be received by Friday, so post today or tomorrow to ensure your vote is counted and your voice is heard.

The union recommends a YES vote to show the employer we reject another year of real-terms pay cuts.

The voting period in UNISON’s General Secretary elections is open until 25th November. It’s the top job in the union, so it’s vital that you have your say when the ballot paper arrives in the post.

Our branch is backing Andrea Egan for General Secretary.

Our branch chair and secretary joined almost 100 activists from across the country to lobby parliament about HE last week. Issues raised include job cuts, threats for courses and the lack of funding in the sector.

1. Seaside trip to Scarborough on Sat 5th July. £5 deposit, returned to you on the trip. Coaches depart at 9am outside the Parkinson building and return by about 6:30. Book before Mon 2nd June. Spend the day in Scarborough as you wish!

Branch statement in solidarity with our trans members. Trans rights are human rights! ✊🏳️‍⚧️
Many of our trans members are understandably upset, angered and worried by the recent Supreme Court judgment and the changed EHRC guidance on trans rights in the UK. We wish to state clearly that this branch will continue to stand in solidarity with you. Around 75% of UNISON members are women, and motions across our conferences consistently reaffirm our membership’s unwavering support, and therefore the union’s unwavering support, and solidarity for our trans siblings. UNISON supports and represents the legal rights of women and trans people so they are not subjected to discrimination or harassment in the workplace and this branch will continue to do so. Historically, UNISON has always fought for marginalised workers. We have already approached the University for urgent talks about this ruling, making it clear that we expect both unions and colleagues from EDI will be involved. The University for its part reiterated that nothing has changed in terms of the University support for these colleagues and students. If you would like to speak to the branch Equality Officer Jas around this issue, discuss ways you can get involved, or if you have concerns or questions about any other workplace issues, please contact the branch. It’s International Workers’ Memorial Day, the time to remember all who have died at work or from unsafe working conditions, and to commit to fight for safer workplaces.

Our branch attended Leeds TUC’s #IWMD25 event, laying a wreath at the memorial plaque outside of Leeds Art Gallery.

For the 5th consecutive ballot, our branch achieved a mandate for strike action with 54.5% turnout.

Congratulations to our members who voted and once again showed the employer that we stand united as a workforce.
