It's a miracle I survived. I was able to make my way to a rowboat despite all the havoc and confusion with the pirates and the kraken...

Four of us made it in that rowboat, coming ashore on an island that wasn't on any maps I've ever seen.

Shipwrecked. Cast away.

If you've only heard of the kraken in songs and stories, you can't imagine it, how big it is.

How utterly terrifying it is when you already thought you were as terrified as you could ever be.

It was bringing the Fortunate Endeavor down.

Before I could figure out what to do, the screaming started. But even the screams were drowned out by the loudest noise I've ever heard.

It wasn't the cannonballs hitting the ship. It was the tentacles bashing it.

But halfway down the stairs, I saw there was fighting down there, too! I was frozen with fear.
April 17, 2025 at 3:49 PM
It was terrifying! People were running about, firing cannons and fighting pirates who boarded the Endeavor!

I didn't know what to do, so I ran back to my room to grab my belongings - maybe some of my spell components would help me survive. Then I tried to run below decks to get out of the melee...

There was so much commotion that I barely remember because I was so scared while it was happening.

We were being attacked and boarded by pirates!

...the cannon fire I heard in the distance while they were talking to me below deck!

Because the poison had been found in my cabin overnight, some members of the crew convinced me to help them find the culprit. The MURDERER. The poor girl who'd been poisoned died of it, and someone tried to poison the Captain as well.

All this was quite distressing, but not nearly so much as...

...immediate.

How can life change so much in one day?

This morning, my biggest concern was wondering whether or not breakfast was poisoned.

My fellow passengers at the Captain's table weren't too pleased to hear about that. Neither was the Captain, come to think of it.

Now? The fear for my life is more...

Dear Diary,

If I didn't have such a keen mind with perfect recall, I wouldn't be able to tell you any of this.

So much has happened.

I'm lucky to be alive, but I don't know if I'll ever see home again.
March 31, 2025 at 4:04 PM
No, I don't think I could sleep on the floor here. There was no indication of a spill or leak, so I probably didn't even need to clean it up with magic. Still...

If someone hid the poison in my room, they could do worse.

I'll need to keep my door alarmed day and night from now on.
March 25, 2025 at 4:16 PM
They took the poison away, but how am I supposed to sleep knowing there's a poisoner on board...and they were in MY ROOM putting poison under MY BED?

I did a little magic to clean up the space, but is my magic strong enough to clean up poison? Should I sleep on the floor just to be safe?
March 25, 2025 at 2:12 PM
Someone had placed it under the mattress of my bed! The bed where I was sleeping! POISON!

That's what the shouting had been about earlier. Someone had been poisoned! I don't even know who, but they questioned me as if I was the one who'd done it! Me!

I COULD NEVER!
March 25, 2025 at 12:17 AM
It was the dwarf who let me onto the ship! He said they were looking for poison, and poison was detected...IN MY ROOM!

I'd forgotten that I'd cast an alarm on the door, so the bell was sounding as he and a dragonborn came in to search.

And they found poison!

Dear Diary,

I cannot fall back asleep. Only a short time after going to bed, I was rudely awakened by pounding on my cabin door! I was not fully awake when I went to see who it was, but I'm too awake now, so I may as well put pen to paper.
March 13, 2025 at 9:28 PM
I set an alarm on my door with a little abjuration magic, in case any of the commotion from below decks spills its way up here while I sleep.

It is a spell I wish I had learned earlier in my travels, even if it wouldn't have protected me from, well, you know, dear diary.

And now, bed.

Nothing of interest left to note, of course. This has already been more excitement than there was on my first voyage across the sea at the start of my ramble.

Traveling with my parents had given me false notions of ship travel, singing songs and playing games with me themselves when I was younger.

There was some sort of commotion below decks, and I briefly heard some shouting in between songs, but the crew asked us to remain on deck while they sorted things out, and Alaric was happy to oblige us with a longer set than he had planned. None of us minded.
March 13, 2025 at 6:55 PM
I'd left my bells in my cabin, but he let me sing along on a few numbers. I used a little magic to create a light show to go along with the music.

Even when I create the magic myself, I cannot help but bat at the lights. They are so fascinating and beautiful, I just want to touch them!
March 13, 2025 at 6:53 PM
Dinner tonight was a nice beef stew, though the Captain didn't join us. He was attending to one duty or another, whatever it is that ship captains do.

Alaric graced us with even a bigger performance on deck afterward. There was quite a crowd!
March 13, 2025 at 6:48 PM
I do wonder where we are headed now, and how long we will remain in port before returning to our original route. Maybe there will be a library or school nearby I could visit while the crew resupplies. New knowledge would make it worth the delay!
March 13, 2025 at 6:39 PM
But anyone with enough gold to convince a Dragonborn not to stick to his trade route could surely afford whatever private luxuries he wishes. I know that the Dragonborn are even fonder of gold than humans are, and that is saying much!
March 13, 2025 at 5:33 PM
He must be so hungry. Perhaps he has his own store of food in his cabin and even the Captain's fare is too rough for him.

He is wealthy enough that he has convinced the Captain to sail further west than the Fortunate Endeavor's planned course. I hope this does not prolong my return home too long.

I have learned that Jennielee's master is called Viscount Benedict Wintertomb. He did not eat anything for breakfast again, and I had to remind myself that humans find it rude to take things off the plates of others, or even ask to do so. The bacon was rapidly cooling and going to waste.
