I had no sleep last night. I’ve somehow made it through 6.5 hours of a 10.5 hour shift. I’m definitely dissociating right now. I need to get grounded.

I think the comic continuity is so dominant in terms of their mythology—Yautja appeared in a novelization first—you can’t really do anything with them and ignore it. Even the movies have honored it at times.

The dream isn’t Screamboat. It’s Guillermo Del Toro making a version of Frankenstein that’s distinctly his own but also still the book. It’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It’s (though this was licensed) The House of Silk where Holmes investigates a sex trafficking club.

Like I think the thing most people want to do with the public domain is do 85% accurate riffs on the characters they love while telling their own stories using them. They’re fans of the work. They don’t want to subvert or deconstruct. They want to celebrate.

That is awesome. And yeah it’s a movie that’s just so blissfully funny and engaging that it’s just too good of a time to not be a favorite. Thanks for the good words.

Dan Trachtenberg taking a consistently solid but never quite up to peak franchise and late in the game making it awesome is so cool. He’s found a way to be an auteur in an IP.

It’s a shame because there’s an interesting text here. She wasn’t alone because she was ignored by the men in town. She explicitly says she hated them. George was the only man good enough for her.
