It took my mod training AND the fact that a family member had been scammed previously by a different impersonation scam for me to be tuned in enough to realize what was happening. And the lack of punctuation was just enough that I was like "wait, no, this isn't right."

Agreed. I am so, so glad I have to deal with the scam posts on a regular basis because it made spotting this one much, much easier.

Also anyone suggesting you take mushrooms, or that you can get $50,000 without having to pay it back, or an investing deal--all scams.
Stay vigilant, and remind your friends and family to do so as well! Especially your elderly family members!

If someone is active on platforms that do have private profiles, it is always okay to turn that feature on, and since bluesky doesn't have that feature, it's good to be aware of it!!

And please remember: "I don't want to" or "the vibes are off" or "no" are all valid reasons to draw those boundaries, even if you can't explain why. Sometimes, people just don't click, or it just doesn't feel right to you.
That's a good enough reason.

Anything that you feel compromises your safety, security, or well being
