We've known about the "ELIZA effect" for almost sixty years, and that was triggered by a very early, primitive chatbot.

Alastair Sim was a good Scrooge, but he was no Michael Caine.

Art is about failing again and again, until you start to fail less.

The rise of AI slop has increased my appreciation of "bad" art created without AI. If you attempt a painting (or restoration), and it sucks because your skills weren't up to the task, at least you created something, and it's a point on your path towards mastery of your craft. RIP, Monkey Christ lady

I watched one of those machines at work in the UK some years ago. Quite mesmerising! I believe it was built by Plasser and Theurer in Austria.

Zohran Mamdani appointed a 30-year EMS veteran to lead the Fire Department of New York. She's eminently qualified, but she's not a white dude, and is gay, so to Musk she's less suitable for the job than some failson.

All the "old" kit I have (including my current desktop) uses DDR4 or DDR3 RAM. Anyone building a new PC today will presumably be looking for DDR5. I've recently bought used DDR4 SODIMMs for some old mini-PCs (which make decent small servers), and the price wasn't outrageous.

She says "only two white male millennials". Restricting her selection to millennials seems especially arbitrary when the writers she recommends were born in 1898 and 1901.

Even in Sinatra's heyday, I think someone would have to be particularly pig-headed to work in the American music industry and be racist. With the undeniable influence of black musicians on popular music, and the fact that you'd almost certainly be working with some, I think that would educate you.

One of the things I admire Ami for is the effort she puts into audience engagement. In this case, she's been replying to various people in the chat.

Somehow, the way that Denholm Elliot delivered the one-word line "eggnog" made me burst out laughing.

Yes, his main skill is inventing sources, which LLMs do very well.

It's firing in all directions because someone told Trump it's Stormy out there.

That does not look like the largest battleship ever built. Trump is exaggerating the size of his equipment again.

It's not merely that it cannot detect bullshit. It is itself (in the Harry G. Frankfurt sense) a bullshitter. It has no interest (cannot have any interest) in whether what it produces is true. It merely needs it to appear to be true. It's a machine for producing answers in the shape of truth.
