Hisaishi, beloved worldwide for his scores for the films of Miyazaki Hayao, scored some of Kitano's masterpieces - and a few that weren't quite as good. But even when the films weren't incredible, the scores were - and they elevated the the content they graced.

Thankfully, the tsunami warning expired around 6 AM this morning, and the majority of the reported waves were only around .2 meters (9 inches). Aftershocks have continued around the waters off east Aomori (including a 6.4 magnitude quake at 6:52 AM), so maintaining some vigilance may be worthwhile.

Other areas in Hokkaido and Aomori are registering similar tsunami waves of 0.4 meters (1.3 feet). Tsunami expected to reach as far south as parts of Fukushima in 15 minutes, but likely even smaller. Hopefully this is the extent of it, but best to careful, as tsunami can strike more than once.

The first waves have been reported at Mutsuogawara Port in Aomori. Initial waves measured at 0.4 meters.

Tsunami advisory has now been updated to a warning for the original area, and advisory area has been extended. Potential is now for a higher tsunami surge. This should be taken seriously.
