If a group of friends want to go throw a frisbee around, tying that to a team seems like too much work. Just go out and play.

If you want to get a group of strangers together, who want ranking, yea, teams make sense.

Why would women and queer folks need structured teams, but men wouldn't? Are you referring to particular games?

Cost aside, professional sport isn't realistic for most people, because of the insane barrier to entry. If your body isn't physically capable of reaching the level needed to win games, no dollar amount will change that.
Playing sport can just be a fun hobby, with friends, no team needed.
