Just finished Premee Mohamed’s The Annual Migration of Clouds. Will be staying with me for a long time. Chilling, lyrical, but with an undercurrent of unkillable hope.

7) The Hockey Ever After series by Ashlyn Kane and Morgan James. Queer hockey romances, super fun and quick reads, always put a smile on my face.

6) A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers. I also reread Psalm for the Wild-Built. The duology is a wonderful sci-fi novella series about a monk who meets a robot and how they help each other. About taking breaks and leaning on people.

4) Not the End of the World by Hannah Ritchie. Non fiction looking at what we can do about climate change. Very much optimistic, which I feel is so needed. We need to be able to imagine a future where things are okay we can strive for.

3) The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. Wonderful story of a man sent to check in on a home for kids with special powers. Utterly queer and moving.

2) A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. Another gorgeously written story, this time about a count sentenced to house arrest in a hotel in 1922 Russia. Over the course of the next decades he sees the changes in the country. Audiobook is fantastic.

The Offsides series by J J Mulder—low angst (esp the first one) queer hockey romances. Adorable and the balm I need right now. Likely be a reread in Feb!

SCU hockey series (also by J J Mulder)—angstier (ish) sibling to Offsides. Lovely hockey romances, cannot wait for the third to come out!

Escape From Incel Island by Margaret Killjoy—wild, campy romp. Less than 100 pages and super fun.

Some of my fave books from January!

Inversion by Aric McBay—beautiful speculative fiction looking at a world that is built to defend itself non-violently from colonisation. Fast and fascinating.
