Seems like a great time to remind everyone how excellent this book is. If you haven’t read it maybe move it to the top of your TBR pile. #books #bookreviews

Private Rites- 3.5/5
Moody, queer reimagining of King Lear set in a drowning world. People going about their mundane business as the world slowly ends is such an unsettling atmosphere, but also rings true. #books #quickreviews

The fact that this exists around us but we got stuck on this stupid planet with a bunch of man babies trying to work out their grievances is just so annoying.

Sing, Unburied, Sing- 4/5 Southern gothic novel that deals with generational trauma, poverty, drug abuse, and racism with a bit of magical realism. Haunting and beautifully written.

James- 3/5
Retelling of Huck Finn from Jim’s perspective. I did enjoy the code switching aspect, but the use of women’s pain as a device to further the main character’s plot is inexcusable. I don’t think this work warranted the accolades it received. There are better novels exploring the same themes

Blacktop Wasteland- 4/5
Crime thriller about a wheel man taking “one last job.” I absolutely love this author. I was listening to this book while walking and actually sped up during the driving scenes lol. His characters are so well written and I love the Southern noir vibes.
