If you like it, I can also recommend Walkaway by the same author. It's much more sci-fi but the core theme of building an alternative to capitalism is still there. Also everyone has silly hacker names, one characters is called Iceweasel.

Good point, I never considered that going from the end of act 2 straight towards the final confrontation (as you are explicitly told is possible) makes no fucking sense at all. It's so weird. The only part of the story that actually matters is in act 3 but actually none of that matters either

I don't know if it's utopian exactly but The Lost Cause by Cory Doctorow is a very hopeful book, it's one of my favorites

They don't even end on it! They tell you none of the characters matter and then the third act with the game's most challenging bosses starts. 99% of it is optional, but it's the place the combat actually gets interesting because the damage cap gets lifted.

Clair Obscure is so playful and mysterious throughout act 1 and 2, and then act 3 is just like lmao none of this mattered and caring about these characters makes you a monster, they are literally just NPCs
