Years ago, for fun, I wrote an essay, which I recently reworked and edited. I submitted it recently for consideration to Amaranth and they picked it up.

So here I am, in their autumn issue, page 66.

At Watts Towers, we just saw David Glenn Brown’s art. It made me cry. For my adopted country, for the injustice people have suffered and are suffering now. Then I made myself walk through the rest of the work. I’m glad I did. He documents this vicious world with grace and humor. Thank you ❤️

This year’s first California lilac just blossomed. The fragrance up and down the street is divine

Artist Richard Houston showing us how to draw faces at my Norton Simon drawing class. The painting is by Fillipino Lippi, and the faces are of two saints. #nortonsimonmuseum #richardhouston

At the Undiminished: Heroines of California Art exhibit, I got to see a painting I’ve been wanting to for ages. Elsie Palmer Payne’s The Bus Stop (1943)—a Black woman getting looks from people around her. So lovely, so trepidatious, so of the moment. 💕#blackhistorymonth #Hilbert

Called my senators whose voice mailboxes were full. So I sent email with the same message I’d have left on the phone.

I am deeply concerned about this country’s democracy.

I want to register my complaint and fear about Elon Musk illegally taking over the US Treasury

I’d rather look at these gorgeous mushrooms by the back door than at the human fungi in Washington. Trying to stay sane and peaceful. Thank goodness for the beauties of nature 💕

I just opened a package from Barbara. I’d asked last month if I could buy The Art of Inheriting Secrets from her so she could inscribe it. I’d helped her with background about Indian food when she wrote it years ago and she’d sent an inscribed copy then, which someone borrowed and didn’t return.

Thank you for 50 years of service to our country and four years as a leader we could respect and admire, President Biden. We will miss you 💕 #biden #realleader

Went to The Baked Potato last night. Carl Verheyen, once guitarist of Supertramp, a musical figure in LA, and the friend of a friend, was performing with one of his bands, The Cranktones! Wow! From Tom Child on bass to the Wackerman brothers on drums. Oh, and the baked potato was super too!

My partner took this picture of me this summer at our local library. Yup, I grew up reading everything I could get my hands on, my daughter grew up with me reading to her and when she could read, giving her books to read, lots of banned books like To Kill a Mockingbird and Catcher in the Rye 🙂
