In Hebrew he's not actually saying "the Lord", he's just saying his name. One of his names gets translated as "God" and the other one is taboo to say, so it gets replaced with the Hebrew word for lord, which gets translated as "the Lord".
(I'm not an expert but I think this is the gist of it.)

I agree this is terrible, but it's also Jeff Bezos's newspaper. We shouldn't be surprised by this or act like legacy media outlets are "ours". In the 2020s it's more advantageous to not have these people on your side.

Because cultural differences are worth celebrating, and it would be incorrect to tell students that "can" isn't used for permission in English.

And one of the nuances of English (and not just English) is that the word "can" can be used for both ability and permission and context clues can help one figure out which one is intended in a particular situation.

It's not a real rule, and even if it was, it's also not a teacher's job to police language. That's how we lose linguistic and dialectal diversity.

It did really look like you claimed that, but I'm glad to know you don't actually think that. I agree that Jews are no more indigenous than Palestinians (I don't think the word "indigenous" is very helpful in that region, to be honest).

I agree, but I was responding to someone who claimed that Jews aren't descended from Canaanites. I don't think Jewish descent from Canaanites entitles Jews to land.
(However, claims that Ashkenazis are 100% European have been made by bad people in the past, so are worth correcting.)

I would guess that the vast majority of Jews are descended from Kohenim, just not necessarily through a male-only line. If you go far enough back in a Jew's genealogy you'll find someone with the last name Cohen or similar.

If we're going back that far, most(?) indigenous peoples in the Americas were in completely different places from where they were in 1492. I guess we can specifically let people back if they were expelled from somewhere, but that's not fair to the people living there now who didn't do the expelling.

I support Palestine, but Jews in general are actually descended from the Canaanites, even if the DNA is a bit diluted now. Look up Y-chromosomal Aaron.

I agree with all of these individually, but the Ukraine one isn't really analogous to the others, and is more analogous to "Gaza must be freed from Israel" which I would also agree with.
