Software developer for underwater / drone survey & integrity. Scottish Independence! Old BMWs (no modern ones thanks), bicycles, cats, skiing. Ex ROC.
I've got a lot of the older Clancy books. Hunt for Red October inspired me to write a Type 22 frigate game for the Sinclair QL which bought my first car followed by Type 23 for the Atari ST (written in C!). But watching The Diplomat recently Trump makes it seem like a bad joke.

Prince Andrew has given up his royal titles including Earl of Inverness after discussions with the king. Time to #AbolishTheMonarchy

Scotland didn't vote for #Brexit but we got it anyway. When we have 57 out of 650 MPs that's no surprise. Westminster can and does ignore Scots. It's time for #ScottishIndependence, time to make our own choices.

First snow of the season forecast for Cairngorm this weekend :-) Where did I put my ski wax?

Tour de France 2027 to start in Edinburgh with presumably a few other stages following. #tdf

That's right, make me feel old :-(

Scotland has less than 1/4 the robbery rate of England. I blame the SNP!
June 13, 2025 at 1:29 PM
Reform MP says they want to scrap our Scottish Parliament. Nobody will be shocked at that! Need for #ScottishIndependence is urgent.

Currently snowing on Cairngorm :-)

Only used CP/M once on a Sirius 1, thought it was the coolest looking computer ever.

I had a 16k ram pack on my ZX81, didn't look as good :-(

In the 1970s the US tried to build "Golden Dome" only then it was called Safegaurd. It used Sprint and Spartan nuclear tipped ABMs. The single base constructed operated for under a year before funding was pulled as it was made obsolete by the advent of MIRVs.

If the UK had a decent pension to start with then folk wouldn't need a winter fuel payment.

Remember this when you hear Sir Keir Starmer and Nigel Farage going on about immigration.
May 12, 2025 at 1:28 PM
After this election disaster and the rise of Reform I wonder if Sir Keir Starmer will face some vote of no confidence and a challenge to his leadership of (what was once) the Labour party? Sadly I suspect not.

By voting for Reform this is the NHS people are signing up to. It's from A&E in the Channel Islands. If we don't want this in Scotland someone needs to urgently build a plan to sell #ScottishIndependence to undecided voters!
May 2, 2025 at 2:42 PM
I look south towards England with a sense of foreboding and see storm clouds gathering. They're opening the door to Reform's populist fascism because Labour are now worse than the Tories. Scotland urgently needs to prepare the lifeboat of #ScottishIndependence

Over 1300 renewables projects running or planned in Highland region. Yet thanks to Westminster we have crazy electricity prices in Scotland and record fuel poverty. What became of Labour's "Great British Energy" promise?

How many other oil producing nations have foodbanks instead of an oil refinery? How can anyone now think that Westminster rule is better than #ScottishIndependence. Ask the workers of Grangemouth if they feel betrayed by Labour.
April 29, 2025 at 5:46 PM
What's the point of a Labour government that knowingly puts 50,000 children into poverty? Scottish Government has enacted the Scottish Child Payment and will mitigate two child cap. We are constantly being undermined by Westminster!

With all that's going on in the world I thought this'd be a great time to watch Canadian Bacon tonight :-) Wonder if Trump or Vance have seen it?

Can't abide smart phones :-) Ancient Nokia for the win, 2G is fine for me!

VI (or vim) is truly wonderful and awesome. I hated it at uni but got to grips with it at work and saw its full power. It has a very high learning curve but once mastered it's just so powerful. I work a lot with ASCII data files and it's regular expression handing is a godsend.

Need to see more posters and signs like this up. If you've got a house with public frontage I'm sure your local Yes group would be delighted to provide one. #ScottishIndependence
