United Against Malnutrition & Hunger
@unitedamh.bsky.social
United Against Malnutrition & Hunger (UAMH) is an alliance pressing the UK Government and politicians of all parties for global action on malnutrition and hunger, which is the cause of 45% of deaths of children under 5.
Reducing development funding is a false economy that will cost future taxpayers more.

Malnutrition cuts learning, earning & prosperity. It drives global migration & instability.

Instead, be strategic, urges our CEO @jonathanoates.bsky.social .

He lays out the reasons why.

Thank you, Lord Alton for highlighting the suffering in Sudan, where 11 million children are hungry, & hundreds of 1000s on the brink of death from malnutrition.

An atrocity caused warlords fighting & blocking food supplies.

The UK must do more.

A very important question, which we thank Lord Bates for raising.

What is the humanitarian cost of the UK’s cut to ODA? Is it being evaluated?

If cuts prevent access to food for civilian populations, how can that be compatible with our obligations under international law?

Hunger in Nigeria is widespread & predicted to rise to 34.7 million people in 2026.

Yet it is a forgotten crisis, says Thierno Samba Diallo @ACF_Nigeria, giving expert evidence to the @CommonsIDC inquiry.

We thank both for drawing attention to this suffering. #ZeroHunger #SDG2

We thank @CommonsIDC for holding its inquiry on UK’s Development Partnership with Nigeria, where Camilla Higgins @INGOforum_ng spoke.

In 2026, 35M people in Nigeria face hunger, equivalent to 1/2 the UK’s population. Imagine that.

Thank you, Mary Dinah @zerohungeraid, for being an expert witness at @CommonsIDC inquiry.

In Nigeria, severe acute malnutrition affects 10% of under-fives & 12% of infants under 24 months.

Malnutrition must be treated because nutrition is foundational to development.

A glimmer of good news!

Thank you for asking this important question @BaggyShanker

Malnutrition causes 45% of the deaths of under-fives & 20% of maternal deaths worldwide. It wreaks misery & fuels instability.

People in Gaza must have access to nutrition.

Good question @DavidMundellDCT @APPGNutrition

Stretched ODA makes the Child Nutrition Fund vital.

A financing partnership pioneered by the UK with @UNICEF @CIFFchild & @gatesfoundation, it boosts UK development funding to improve the lives of millions of children.

Conflict & are locked in a deadly cycle. That’s the grim reality driving famine in Sudan today.

Powerfully described by Baroness Anelay.

It is a difficult listen. But we need to know.

Well said @BaronessGoudie.

In Sudan, women & children are starving because food is being used as a weapon of war.

Antenatal supplements & emergency therapeutic food would limit the perpetrators' impact on the next generation.

Food is the present & the future.

Yet funding for famine-hit Sudan is short, says @jonny_oates

Not enough for infants' emergency therapeutic food.
Not enough for smallholder farmers to restore food production.

#InvestmentInNutrition saves lives now & beckons a better tomorrow.

Our CEO @jonny_oates leads the UAMH alliance, which works towards a world where no child dies of malnutrition.
Proven, cost-effective Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food pulls young children back from the brink of starvation.

It is unconscionable that this is being denied #ZeroHunger

Thank you, The Lord Bishop of Leeds, for laying out the staggering suffering in Sudan, where 25-30 million people are hungry & 16 million children need aid.

What is the Government’s assessment of this humanitarian situation, he asks.

There is famine in Sudan, where food is being used as a weapon of war - an utterly desperate emergency highlighted by @AnnelieseDodds.

Blocking food aid is against International Humanitarian Law.

The UK must lead the way in upholding the law & advocate strongly for compliance.

Debt soars. Nutrition services shrink.

That’s happening in low-income countries right now.

Debt and Malnutrition: Ending the Doom Loop shows how to change debt into a tool to improve child nutrition.

Polling reveals public support for action.

Published tomorrow.

Global malnutrition has soared, driving poverty and unrest.

The UK can lead change by protecting nutrition ODA and supporting fair debt reform.

Growth - isn’t that what we want?

Every US$1 invested in nutrition returns US$23.
Debt reform that supports global nutrition is smart economics.

Thank you @EdwardMorelloWD, for leading this debate on Planned Reductions in Official Development Assistance in International Development.

The timing of cuts is terrible. They come as global need is rising, and many millions of children are suffering unimaginably from hunger.
November 7, 2025 at 4:06 PM
In 2023, low- and middle-income countries spent over US$400 billion on debt repayments - more than on health and education.
This fuels hunger and malnutrition.
