Not the point but he was doing all of this from a presumably air conditioned office.

I have no doubt that this would apply at least one of my senators - Hickenlooper - and am about 90% sure about Bennett.

Yes. And it also seems that he himself knew what it was as well - not just a cool-looking skull design.

But along the ignorance lines I’m also old enough to remember a controversy around Target or Walmart selling a tokenkopf t-shirt a while back.

The reason for this is that this class of people has internalized the idea of conservatives as the American Volk, an idea downstream of the senate and EC giving them more power than their numbers that has somehow become a quasi spiritual belief about the nature of the country

I can’t say I don’t feel Schadenfreude but as a practical matter it doesn’t make sense to permanently subsidize farmers serving a non existent export market. They (or their replacements) will need to find a new market and/or new crops that they can sell neither of which will be easy.

You’d lose that bet but it is a non sequitur. Do you think these farmers are going to migrate en masse to Mexico?

And what specifically do you suggest to to replace their export market? Subsidize them forever? It’s not coming back and was not feeding Americans to get back to your original point.

You’re obviously right that someone will be buying up the capacity left behind. It could be corps it could be other large family farmers (as Taber herself has explained). But these farmers literally chose this outcome and now there is no export market for their goods and it isn’t going to come back.

These farmers crops were going to export - we definitionally were not getting our food from them.
