Great band still, and also 100% right about what has been going on.

Other agencies have long used “DTO” for “drug trafficking organization.”

Is it all the same now at DOD?

This is why your account is so good. I come for the international law, I stay for the punk rock.

Thanks so much for your great work.

Serious question: in what courts outside the USA could this act be prosecuted if it turns out to be a one-time occurrence?

I can picture a trial jury that decides to acquit, holds its verdict until after lunch, gets sandwiches, and then leaves them on defense table after they deliver the verdict. And that’s if the grand jury doesn’t no-bill the indictment.

Mike Judge is a prophet.

Wow, thank you for linking to this. It’s jaw dropping. Such great reporting. The no-bills are a story on their own, and the quotes are amazing. At least one AUSA DGAF.

Am I reading it right that this is from 2011? One of the reasons this is stupid is that the statute of limitations is 10 years.

If DOJ uses Rule 35 to do the sentence-reducing work for Trump, the victims would still have an opportunity to be heard per 18 U.S.C. 3771. And the judge wouldn’t have to reduce. But I guess the point for Team Trump is just to get a statement from Maxwell, and what happens after is just her problem.

One of the tracks that makes Repo Man the best movie soundtrack album in history.

I’m among those who for years was skeptical of international courts and thought the US should preserve its sovereignty. It has been very disorienting to come to understand that we are one of the countries that lack capacity to deter crime and deliver justice in some very important circumstances.

Disgraceful.

This suggests that a magistrate signed a no-knock warrant. They’d have to have made a showing for that. I wonder what the affidavit says.

I saw them play the Greek in Berkeley around 1986. Maybe everything is more vivid in your teens, but wow, to me, they were like fire-breathing giants. And Siouxsie . . .

Who else thinks it was a mistake to create DHS? There were other contributors to the militarization of law enforcement over the last 20+ years, but DHS had that going on from its inception. Let’s put INS back at Justice, Customs and Secret Service back at Treasury, FPS back at GSA, and on and on.

So true. I feel like punk has a lot of answers to questions being raised by this time, but kids these days . . .

Until this post, I hadn’t heard this song in decades! If Bluesky were just your account and @punkrockhistory.bsky.social, it’d still be one of the best things on my phone.

I noticed that, too. A different time!
